Father’s Day Gift Ideas for the Dad Who Loves to Putter

If you’re thinking of what to get Dad for Father’s Day, you’ve come to the right place. With some of the best home improvement info and ideas on the web, HouseLogic is right in Dad’s wheelhouse. Sure, a hammock’s nice — but Dads like nothing better than puttering around the house and yard and then, when the day is done, firing up some bodacious barbecue. Here are some of the coolest outdoor gear and tools at prices to fit all budgets.

Outdoor appliances

  • Charcoal grill or smoker. If your Dad is a true Tong Master, a grill that uses real charcoal is the way to go. Nothing beats the tantalizing aroma of a slow-smoked brisket. Prices range from $50 to $1,000.
  • Outdoor beer dispenser. If your Dad likes to stand out from the crowd, a weatherproof kegerator is a surefire way to give him backyard bragging rights. No more ducking into the kitchen every five minutes to retrieve ice-cold suds for guests with one of these appliances on the deck or patio. Expect to pay $400 to $1,500, and you’ll need access to electrical power.
  • Gas barbecue grill. Cement your place in family history by springing for a handsome gas grill. Built of heavy cast aluminum or thick-gauge steel, these outdoor cookers will put a permanent smile on Dad’s face. Prices for good-quality units start as low as $150. Pay $350 or more for top-quality gas grills with enough cooking surface to cook two dozen burgers all at once.

Yard tools

  • Chainsaw. C’mon, you know he wants one. Even if he doesn’t use it all the time, a chainsaw is a lot of machismo in a little — and affordable — package. A 40 cc saw with a 16-inch bar is good for most yard work, and costs $130 to $200.
  • Wheelbarrow. Think a wheelbarrow is a corny present? Not so! A wheelbarrow is the heart and soul of yard work. Plus, it takes a load off Dad’s back without breaking your budget. You’ll find them from $30 to $250.

From Mom, with love (and a hidden agenda)

  • Steam shower. Let’s be honest: Dads don’t have to get all the fun on Father’s Day if you play your cards right. A steam shower will relax his aching muscles after a day of felling trees and planting petunias. Plus, you’ll get to luxuriate in it after a week of planning the perfect Father’s Day for a guy who certainly has it all. $1,000 to $5,000.

What are you getting your dad this Father’s Day?
