Warning: Tub Refinishing Chemical Could be Deadly

Please take care if you’re doing a bathroom renovation. A tub refinishing chemical has been linked to 13 deaths.

We’re helping the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) spread the word that refinishing your bathtub could be hazardous to your health.

The CDC has linked 13 deaths of bathtub refinishers to the methylene chloride paint stripping agents they used. The report says victims, who wore no or inadequate respirators, were working in small bathrooms with inadequate ventilation.

Methylene chloride vapors, which are heavier than air and can stay on the tub after application, previously have been linked to deaths of furniture strippers and factory workers.
