Checklist - Before you set up a rain barrel irrigation system:

• Research average monthly rainfall for your area.
• Estimate roof area to calculate the amount of runoff you can collect.
• Determine the number of rain barrels required to meet irrigation needs.
• Determine whether the rain barrel can be gravity fed or requires a pump.
• Troubleshoot such potential problems as mosquitoes, leaves, and safety.
• Develop winter plan to drain and/or store rain barrels in freezing weather.
