Time to Shut Off Your Outdoor Spigots (Again)

Now that winter has returned, protect your home from burst pipes and other cold-weather threats.

Added to Binder

Just when we were getting used to spring, winter is back with a vengeance in some parts of the country. Northern Virginia, where I live, is expecting its first real snowfall this afternoon.

So, if you followed our recent advice and watered your spring-fevered plants, don’t forget to turn off your outdoor spigots and avoid frozen pipes and other cold-weather threats when the temperature falls below freezing.

If, God forbid, a pipe does burst:

  • Shut off water supply.
  • Turn off electricity to wet areas.
  • Call a plumber.

Is winter back in your area? Do you miss our mini-spring?
