Our friends at Remodelaholic remind us that serendipity can play a big role in any kitchen makeover.

Remodelaholic’s kitchen spruce-up started with a couple of cans of paint to turn old oak cabinets into two-toned — Alabaster White and Cathedral Stone Grey — painted cabinets.

The fresh cabinets suddenly inspired a stainless steel-look backsplash, which lead to a whimsical shelf above the sink, and finally a few swipes of chalkboard paint inside a cupboard door for a handy grocery list.

What’s the take-home lesson from the Remodelaholic facelift?
