This story has the makings of a chick flick starring Kevin Costner, hammer in hand.

Here’s the plot: Neighbors in a NYC bedroom community band together to turn a dilapidated Victorian into a gleaming show house ready for sale. All in the name of making sure their area remains a great neighborhood to live.

Anna Dorfman of the popular blog Door Sixteen says a group of neighbors in tree-lined Newburgh, New York, bought the house, then lovingly restored every detail, right down to the electric and plumbing.

Here’s one of the neighbors describing the process:

Ameneties include a gorgeous butler’s pantry, now-gleaming woodwork and, in case you didn’t pick up on this, great neighbors who are invested in the success of their community.
