Fireplaces and Inserts Recalled: Flowing Gas Can Cause Fire

Some Signature Command fireplaces and inserts are being recalled because a faulty control prevents units from lighting, even though gas continues to flow.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling 15,000 fireplaces and inserts that pose a fire hazard.

A control component in Signature Command Controlled Direct and B-Vent Gas Fireplaces and Inserts can prevent the units from lighting, even though gas continues to flow. No fires have been reported so far.

Hearth dealers and distributors sold the recalled units nationwide between October 2011 and October 2012 for between $1,030 and $8,160.

If you own a recalled unit, stop using it and turn off the fireplace using the master control switch on the command center. Consumers should then contact Monessen Hearth Systems Company to arrange a free repair.
