Almost 9,000 Champion power equipment portable generators are being recalled because fuel can leak from the carburetor and cause the generator to catch on fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says 11 reports of leaking generators have been filed, including 8 reports of generators catching fire.

The recalled generators were sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale stores nationwide from December 2011 through July 2012 for about $700. Model numbers affected in the recall:

  • #41532 — 9,000 watt/7,000 watt wireless remote electric start portable generator
  • #41332 — 8,250 watt/6,500 watt wireless remote electric start portable generator

If you own a recalled generator, stop using it and contact Champion for a free repair kit that should be installed by an authorized dealer. You also can return the unit to Costco for a full refund.
