Bumbo Baby Seats Recalled: Babies Can Fall and Crack Their Skulls

The CPSC is recalling 4 million more Bumbo Baby Seats that can cause serious injury to babies who wiggle out and fall.

More than 4 million Bumbo Baby Seats are being recalled because babies have wiggled out, fallen, and in some cases, cracked their skulls.

This is the second recall of the seats made by Bumbo International Trust of South Africa: 1 million were recalled in 2007. Since then, at least 50 more accidents have been reported when the seat was used on a raised surface; 19 of those incidents included skull fractures. Even on flat surfaces, the chairs have caused at least 34 injuries when babies maneuvered out and fell; two of those incidents included skull fractures.

The recalled seats were sold at Sears, Target, Walmart, and other toy and children’s stores nationwide and online, from August 2003 though August 2012, for between $30 and $50.

If you own a Bumbo Baby Seat, stop using it immediately and order a free repair kit that includes a restraint belt. Even with the belt, the seat should never be used on raised surfaces.
