84,000 Thomas Lighting Fixtures Recalled: Fire and Shock Hazard

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled almost 84,000 Thomas Lighting ceiling flush mount lights because they pose a fire and electric shock hazard.

Twenty-eight models have been recalled because the fixtures’ socket wire insulation can degrade and cause electricity to pass to the metal canopy of the fixture. Thomas Lighting has received 11 reports of defective fixtures; no injuries were reported.

The lights were sold through electrical distributors and lighting wholesalers between July 2010 and July 2011 for between $19 and $50.

If you own recalled fixtures, stop using them immediately, avoid touching them, and contact Thomas Lighting to arrange for a free in-home repair by a qualified electrician.
