January is National Radon Action Month. So don’t just sit there — take these actions to protect you and your family from this deadly gas.

We want to remind you that January is the EPA’s National Radon Action Month, the time to ensure you’re protected against the invisible killer responsible for 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year.

What can you do to guard against this odorless but radioactive gas, which could be filling your home right now?

  • Test your home with easy-to-use radon testing kits.
  • If you discover radon, caulk gaps and cracks in your home’s slab, foundation, or framing.
  • If you’re buying new construction, select a home with radon-resistant features, such as passive radon control systems.
  • Talk up the risks of radon with friends and family, and encourage them to test their homes.
